Blood Tests

BLOOD TESTS

You will require documents to take with you to the Lab for the blood tests. The first is your ID so that the Lab Technician can verify your identity and the remaining documents are the requisitions that we will provide to tell the lab what tests are required.  The Lab will fax the results to McDonagh Immigration Medical Services, where we will scan the report and upload it to your file.  90% of the time the test is normal. The doctor will only contact you (by email) if the test is abnormal.

If you have the option to do so, our office recommends you book your appointment for your bloodwork with Dynacare as they charge less for the bloodwork. You will have to pay a lab fee of approximately $30.00 payable directly to the lab (Dynacare). If you choose to go with Life Lab, the lab fee is approximately $81.00. They will accept credit and debit. 

Blood tests are mandatory for all clients who are 15 years of age and older.  

The 3 tests are for:

1. Syphilis

2. HIV 

3. Creatinine 

HIV and Syphilis

• Both Syphilis and HIV are sexually transmitted diseases. Please note that if the test is positive, it does not necessarily mean that you will fail the medical exam. Syphilis and HIV are notifiable conditions, meaning that if positive, we have to notify the Public Health Department and refer you to a special clinic for further assessment and treatment if necessary. There, you will be instructed regarding safe sex and methods of limiting the spread of the disease.

Creatinine

• The Creatinine blood  test provides information about kidney function .

•  You can choose to go to any lab in the city, you do not require an appointment and you do not need to fast before having the test. 

There is a Life Lab in the same building as our office in the basement open from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, however, you must go online to book an appointment in advance. Alternatively, you can google www.dynacare.ca. Several Dynacare labs in the city do not require a pre-booked appointment.
