This project comes from my digital paint class from my first quarter of college. For this assignment we were tasked with creating a landscape image that mixed a classical painting with contemporary artwork. For the classical piece I was inspired by David Friedrich’s “Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog.” The contemporary aspect was inspired by the album cover paintings of artist Roger Dean. After creating the illustration, we’d take it into adobe after effects and add a parallax effect to create the illusion of realistic environmental motion. We were also allowed to add music. The song I added was an excerpt from Yes’s “Close to the Edge”. I picked that song because I was listening to that song while working on this assignment and Roger Dean did the album’s original artwork, so It felt right when considering I was already bringing in a Roger Dean influence. Shown below is the image version without motion. The link above showcases the video version.
