Nursing care of the newborn infant involves assisting the infant to transition to extrauterine life, assessing their health, assisting with feeding, and educating the family on care. During the first 2 hours of life, nursing care is focued on ensureing the newborn is transitioning to extrauterine life well and provide a complete assessment. Oftentimes, the nurse will provide information to the pediatrician as they are the first person to ever assessess this individual. Newborn care after they have transistioned to extrauterine life will focus on assessing for complications and education to the new parents.
