Description of Artifact: This is a certificate of completion that I received after completing the online mandated reporter training on December 15, 2023.
Connection to the Standard: This artifact connects to Standard 9 Knowledge Indicator 9B) "knows laws and rules (e.g. mandatory reporting, sexual misconduct, corporal punishment) as a foundation for the fair and just treatment of all students and their families in the classroom and school."
What I Learned from this Artifact: Through completing the online mandated reporter training, I learned my responsibilities as a mandated reporter. I learned about the signs of child abuse and neglect, as well as the process for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
Description of Artifact: This is an activity verification and reflection form that I filled out to verify a professional development webinar that I participated in. The focus of the webinar was the topic of Ars Poetica and how it could be incorporated into literacy instruction.
Connection to the Standard: This artifact connects to Standard 9 Performance Indicator 9O) "participates in professional development, professional organizations, and learning communities, and engages in peer coaching and mentoring activities to enhance personal growth and development."
What I Learned from this Artifact: I learned about different examples of Ars Poetica that I could incorporate in a lesson on this style of poetry. I also learned about different children's books that are good resources for explaining how to write Ars Poetica poems. The writers workshop that was practiced during the webinar is something that I would implement in my own classroom. Furthermore, I learned that incorporating styles of poetry that allow for personal connections and creativity, such as Ars Poetica, engages students and encourages them to enjoy writing poetry because they can relate their poetry to their own lives and interests.
