Description of Artifact: This is a lesson plan that I wrote with two other novice teachers from Trinity Christian College. We wrote this lesson plan for a 3rd / 4th grade science club that we were co-teaching together. This lesson was about the phases of the moon.
Connection to Standard: The artifact connects to Standard 8 Knowledge Indicator 8B) "understands the collaborative process and the skills necessary to initiate and carry out that process." I met with the two other novice teachers in order to collaborate on this lesson plan. We met to collaborate for all of the lesson plans that we wrote together. Our collaborative process involved agreeing on a topic, discussing and writing our ideas, designing experiments, researching and planning activities, and coordinating who was going to execute each part of the lesson.
What I Learned from this Artifact: Through creating lesson plans, such as this lesson plan about the phases of the moon, I learned how to collaborate with other teachers to design effective learning experiences for students. I also learned how to plan and prepare the responsibilities of each co-teacher involved in co-taught lessons. We had to make team decisions about the role of each co-teacher during the different parts of our lessons.
Description of Artifact: This is a Google Slides presentation that contains all of the slideshow presentations that my colleagues and I utilized to co-teach each of our lessons for the 3rd / 4th grade science club that we co-taught together.
Connection to Standard: The slideshow of science club lesson activities connects to Standard 8 Performance Indicator 8N) "uses effective co-planning and co-teaching techniques to deliver instruction to each student." My colleagues and I created these slideshow presentations together. We discussed our ideas for the visuals and content on the slides before entering those components into our presentation slides. We established classroom procedures and expectations, which we reminded our students of at the beginning of each science club session. As part of co-planning, we planned out which slides each co-teacher would be in charge of during the lesson. We also planned out the materials that we would need to provide for the students and which co-teacher would bring in each material. My colleagues and I arrived early for each science club session in order to collaborate on setting up our classroom. Additionally, we were prepared to accommodate a variety of learning styles and student needs.
What I Learned from this Artifact: I learned how to co-plan and co-teach effective lessons that are engaging and use a variety of teaching methods. Also, I learned how to coordinate the responsibilities of each co-teacher in a group of co-teachers for preparation, setting up a classroom, and executing parts of lessons.
