Learning Environment

Description of Artifact: This is a classroom management plan that I created.  In my classroom management plan, I explain my philosophy about classroom management.  Also, I explain the classroom rules and procedures that I plan to establish in my classroom.  Furthermore, I outline classroom management strategies that I will utilize.

Connection to Standard: This artifact connects to Standard 4 Knowledge Indicator 4A) "understands principles of and strategies for effective classroom and behavior management" because in my plan, I address the strategies I will utilize to manage behavior in my classroom, as well as my plans for classroom rules and procedures.  I also explain why these strategies, rules, and procedures are effective.

What I Learned from this Artifact: I learned how to plan out my classroom management strategies in order to be prepared to manage my own classroom and address a wide range of behavior issues.

Description of Artifact: This is a lab safety contract that I created for the 3rd / 4th grade science club that I cotaught.  All of my students were required to sign this lab safety contract in order to participate in lab activities.

Connection to Standard: The Science Club Lab Safety Contract connects to Standard 4 Performance Indicator 4J) "creates clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior and a physical setting conducive to achieving classroom goals."  I created classroom expectations for lab activities that were clear and enforced safety.  Both communication and behavior were addressed in the expectations.  This lab safety contract established a science classroom environment that kept students safe and supported effective learning experiences.

What I Learned from this Artifact: I learned how to write an effective lab safety contract that enforces necessary rules for keeping students safe in a science classroom environment in order to provide students with a high-quality educational experience.
