Game Day Friday
Long Division with Dice Multiplication with Dominoes Multiplication with Cards
Pizza Fraction Fun Area Model Game
Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers on Whiteboards
On some Fridays, I facilitated Game Day Friday during math. There were six stations with games, as well as one station to complete i-Ready math activities. The first game was long division with dice. Students roll some of the dice to create a four-digit or five-digit number. Then, they roll the remaining dice to create a divisor. They work out the long division problem on mini whiteboards using the break-apart method, and they check their answer using a calculator. At the second station, students flipped over dominoes and multiplied the two numbers shown on the domino to practice their multiplication facts. At the third station, each student would grab a card from the top of the deck of cards without looking at it. The students would flip their cards over at the same time, and the first person to multiply the two numbers on the cards and say the answer aloud was the winner of the cards. The fourth station was a game titled Pizza Fraction Fun. Students spun a spinner with fractions to determine which slice of pizza to grab. Fractions were labeled on the back sides of the pizza slices. When the spinner landed on the option to trade, students needed to make a decision. At the fifth station, students rolled dice to create numbers for area model problems. They worked out the problems on mini whiteboards and checked their answers with a calculator. For the sixth station, I wrote a variety of fractions and mixed numbers on the Promethean board. On mini whiteboards, students turned improper fractions into mixed numbers, and they turned mixed numbers into improper fractions. The final station was i-Ready math.
Women's History Month
This is a picture of my students' Women's History Month projects displayed on our classroom bulletin board in the hallway. My students each researched a famous woman who made significant contributions to history. They wrote notes in their social studies spirals as they researched the necessary information before writing the information on their graphic organizer. The students decorated their graphic organizers after writing all of the information that they discovered.
Poetry Kites
The poetry kites were a significant project this semester. My students learned a lot about writing poetry and applying their knowledge of figurative language. This was an excellent opportunity for them to be creative, express themselves, and write something that is meaningful to them personally. These poems are on display on the bulletin board outside of the office for the whole school community to view.
Goodbye Party
My students, my cooperating teacher, and I had a goodbye party on my last day of student teaching. The students gave me gifts, and each student made a card for me. Students had the option to read their card aloud at the podium before giving me the card. We also read Because I Had a Teacher by Kobi Yamada together as a whole class.
