Materials: Acrylic paint on 30 x 40 canvas
Denotation:
A comic book pop art style painting reimagining The Vision of the Sermon focusing on the intimate action of Jacob wrestling the angel and being given a new name after being defeated by the striking of his hip. This painting sets this biblical scene and presents it in this more modern way to represent the relevance of these stories in today's age. It's in the intimate moments where we wrestle and struggle with God that we can be made new.
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
