About the Artist

Marisa Martinez is a painter and book artist based in Hamilton, New Jersey. She is currently pursuing her BFA at The College of New Jersey. The steady muse of her life and her work is her faith in God, her love for her family and her culture. In her work there is a consistent sense of "play" whether it is by abstracted figures, dramatic lighting/color, or the occasional large pop-up fold or accordion fold. Currently she continues to search for a common ground between her love for poetry, painting, story illustration, and book arts. All the while her art will continue to glorify God and express her constant need for Jesus. Conceptually her work explores themes of cultural and spiritual identity, religion, and mental health.
