On this page, you will find all activity and lesson plans I have developed during my time completing my Bachelor's degree at McGill University, in courses and on the field.
FE4: St-Edmond High School, Winter 2023
During this field experience, I had two groups of Secondary 2 and four groups of Secondary 4.
In my last field experience, I had the chance to complete a total of six formative assessments. Three were conducted by my Supervisor, who visited me in-person in my host school. The other three were conducted by my Cooperating Teacher. With these formative assessments, I was able to thoroughly identify my strengths as an educator, as well as the areas I could improve on. I made an effort to work on my weaknesses and improve upon them for each following assessment. I am extremely proud to say that I received the mark of 'Exceptional' in every single Professional Competency for the Summative Assessment of this internship.
FE3: École Primaire Georges P. Vanier, Fall 2022
During this field experience, I had groups of grade four, five, and six, as well as two special needs groups.
Over the course of my third field experience, I organized a great number of lessons to vary the availability of resources and teaching methods for my students and my Cooperating Teacher. More specifically, I planned four lessons for my formative assessments. The lessons' topics and themes were varied, including Indigenous story-telling, unusual talents, capitalization and punctuation through kinetic learning, and robotics.
FE2: École Secondaire Jacques Rousseau, Spring 2022
During this field experience, I had groups of International Baccalaureate program and Cheerleading concentration program, all in Secondary One.
The following activity plan was created at the beginning of my second field experience. In the context of their final evaluation situation, my Cooperating Teacher’s core ESL students were learning about schools around the world, the key features that make each school special, and the different educational traditions around the world. For this reason, my fellow Student Teacher and I created an activity that would reinforce students’ understanding of the vocabulary used in this evaluation. This activity asks that students imagine their dream school and write down key words in a mind map. Once they are done, they have to use those key words to write a descriptive text, composed of complete sentences. This exercise was used to give students an opportunity to practice putting key words into complete sentences, as their final written production required that. As demonstrated in my thorough planning of this activity, I applied Professional Competency 4: Implement teaching and learning situations.
The following lesson plan is the lesson plan I executed as my first formative assessment during my second field experience. This lesson plan was developed in collaboration with my fellow Student Teacher, but we each executed it separately. In the context of their final evaluation situation, my Cooperating Teacher’s enriched ESL students were learning about the lives of teenagers in the 1950’s. For this reason, we created this lesson about teenagers’ lives in the 1990’s to bridge the 70 year gap between the 1950’s and now, and help students make comparisons between those two eras and now. This lesson asks students to activate prior knowledge, build their understanding of new concepts, and check for understanding at the end. As demonstrated in my thorough planning of this lesson, I applied Professional Competency 4: Implement teaching and learning situations.
The following lesson plan is the plan I executed for my second formative assessment during my second field experience. This lesson was developed in collaboration with my fellow Student Teacher, and we executed it together. The first part of the lesson was led by Felixe, while I supported by passing papers, managing the classroom, checking that students stayed on task, etc. For the second part, we switched roles. This lesson was developed to support student understanding of the content of their final evaluation situation on teenager’s lives in the 1950’s. As demonstrated in my thorough planning of this lesson, I applied Professional Competency 4: Implement teaching and learning situations.
EDEC262: Media, Technology and Education
Technology Integrated Lesson Plan
In this assignment, I created a technology integrated lesson plan, which aimed to teach with the support of technology. The goal was to incorporate the use of this technology to enhance the learning outcome. This lesson plan is targeted for a secondary 2 ESL classroom.
In this lesson, students are tasked to write a modern day version of an excerpt of "The 12 Labours of Hercules." Following the writing period, students have to make an audio recording of the story and create a digital painting to accompany it. Finally, the students have to edit a short movie with the recording and digital painting.
EDEA342: Curriculum and Instruction in Drama Education
Cross Curricular Unit Plan
In this assignment, my colleague and I created a short unit plan based on the knowledge we acquired in this drama education course. We used this information and transposed it in our experience teaching ESL, to create a unit plan for our future students, that incorporates the components of drama education. This unit plan is targeted for a secondary 5 ESL classroom.
In this unit plan, students are invited to analyze the novel The Knife of Never Letting Go. Throughout the unit, the teacher introduces activities that relate to drama education to allow the students to put themselves in the shoes of the characters of the story and better understand the plot. At the end of the unit, the students create a short performance where they predict what will happen later on in the novel.
EDES361: Teaching Secondary English 1
Murder Mystery Instructional Unit
In this assignment, my colleagues and I created an instructional unit, spanning over a month, on the topic of murder mystery literature. This unit is targeted for a secondary 3 EESL classroom. We used the information we learned in this course to choose level appropriate literature and conduct a literature study.
In this unit, students will explore different types of murder mystery literature, from novels to films, throughout the years. At the end of the unit, students create their very own murder mystery podcast.
EDES361: Teaching Secondary English 1
Signpost Lesson Plan
In this assignment, my colleague and I created a lesson plan based on the knowledge about signposts that we learned in this course. This lesson is targeted for a secondary 4 EESL classroom. It explores the Again and Again signpost, which analyzes instances of repetition in a given text.
In this lesson, students are tasked to analyze a poem about intergenerational trauma, and identify the instances of repetition that present literary devices. At the end, students are invited to draw their interpretation of the imagery in the poem.
