Third Field Experience: Georges P. Vanier Elementary School
Aug to Dec 2022
Throughout my field experience, I made sure to keep in contact with my students’ parents to keep them up to date with our educational plans. To do so, I sent emails weekly to inform parents of evaluations coming up and give them resources to support their children in their studying at home. I also responded to parent emails in a timely manner and kept a professional tone throughout.
In addition, my Cooperating Teacher and I kept a detailed log of non-compliant behaviour on the Mozaik Portail platform. The messages sent there are kept in the students’ dossier and are sent to the parents. On this platform, we also made it a point to send positive behaviour messages, to encourage our students that were behaving well.
Finally, when I attended parent-teacher conferences, I connected with all parents that were present. I provided them with traces of their child’s work. When needed, I encouraged the parents to use resources to support their children’s learning of the English language. I also followed up after the parent-teacher conferences to ensure that parents felt that they were supported as well in their child’s academic journey.
On the left you will find an example of an email I sent to parents during my field experience. In any correspondence with parents, I maintained a professional tone when communicating with parents at all times. This is one of many examples of communications I had with the parents. In this specific example, I communicated to parents the start of my new robotics club. I wrote to them in French, as it is the language of communication.
