Fourth Field Experience: St-Edmond High School
Feb to Apr 2023
In this field experience, I attended a workshop with my Cooperating Teacher on the use of technology in the ESL classroom. During this workshop, I discovered a ton of new resources that I had never heard of before. As I am pretty comfortable with the use of technology in the classroom, I was happy to learn about new resources that can help me enhance the experience for my students in my classroom. This workshop also allowed me to developed my digital literacy with these tools.
On the right, you will find a Blooket quiz that I created during this workshop day. I used it at the end of my internship with students to go over some of the notions we learned together and have a fun way to say goodbye!
Third Field Experience: Georges P. Vanier Elementary School
Aug to Dec 2022
Over the course of my third field experience, I attended two workshops at the Service Center office with my Cooperating Teacher to develop my own professional competencies. The first one was about robotics. In this workshop, I discovered ten robots that can be used in the classroom and got to test out three of them. I also had the chance to develop lesson ideas alongside other ESL teachers. I learned a lot from this experience, as I knew nothing about robotics, and I got to cooperate with fellow teachers in the field. We each brought our own ideas to the table and supported each other in our learning journeys. At the end of the workshop, I was so inspired by what I had learned that I rented some robots and started a robotics extra-curricular activity with 14 cycle three students. I was adamant to continue learning about robots and how they can be used in the classroom to enhance students’ learning experience. By the end of my field experience, I even led a lesson on robotics, as I have outlined above.
The second workshop I attended was called Constellations. Constellations is a ministerial project where teachers all across the province and in all subject areas get together to create lesson and activity ideas based on fiction and non-fiction books. My Cooperating Teacher has been invited to attend on behalf of elementary ESL teachers. During this workshop, we explored elementary-level picture books and developed lesson and activity ideas to be published on the official website. It was enriching to work with fellow ESL teachers that have a lot of experience and passion. This day solidified my feeling of belonging to a professional culture, while allowing me to develop ideas that could serve in classrooms across the province.

Within my host school, I was also able to observe other classrooms and subject areas, which allowed me to reflect on my own teaching practices. On my last week, I was invited to attend an orthopedagogy period. During this period, the orthopedagogy professional told me all about the profession and how they get to develop relationships with the students and support them in their success. I was inspired by this individualised way of teaching, as it offers more one-on-one support to students and targets their specific needs. From what I observed, it would be beneficial for all students to have access to this service, and I will try to implement the techniques I learned there in my future classroom.
