The job of a lifeguard is very demanding. You are in control of your pool. You have to be constantly vigilant because every swimmer is in your care even before or after they have left the water. Take the Lifeguard Course to ensure that your girls are safe and that you know what to do in a water emergency.
The Lifeguard Course is taken in Three Parts: Online Course Study, Swim Test, and 3 In Person Water Skills Sessions. Each portion of the course is evaluated and tested. You must pass every portion in order to pass the course. The American Red Cross does not offer refunds for Lifeguard Courses. Courses can be transferred to another student before the Online Component is started for a small fee. Please speak with your instructor for more information.
Students must be at least 15 years old at the time of course completion for the Full Lifeguard Certification. The certification is good for 2 years.
The Junior Lifeguard Course can be taken by 11 to 14 year olds who can demonstrate the following: 25 yard front crawl, 25 yard breast stroke, tread water for 1 minute with arms and legs, 25 yard elementary backstroke or back crawl - or - 30 second full back float, and finally fully submerged swim of 10 feet underwater.
