Holiday Service Project is unique to Marina Service Unit. It began years ago as a Gold Award Project, and Marina SU has continued the tradition since, coming together every December to make holiday ornaments for the Teague Foundation Holiday Party for children & families in foster care.
Older Scouts then take the ornaments to the Foundation the next day to help decorate table top trees and serve at the Teague holiday party.
This is a fun event and great way to start the holiday season. The set up is similar to World Thinking Day. Troops that want to host a table at HSP choose a simple, very small (less than 3 inches) ornament craft that can be assembled at the event by younger scouts.
Each participating troop needs to bring:
• Ornament Materials: Each troop should bring materials prepped to make 1the requested number of ornaments. These need to be easy to assemble, non-fragile, and in good quality. Please use glue dots, no paint or glue that needs to dry. No food or candy can be used in the ornaments. If you do not have hanging ribbon attached, please bring hangers for each ornament.
•Cookies and Drinks: Bring enough for your troop. We will exchange these after the girls have completed their ornaments. If bringing a drink that requires cups, please supply cups.
• Clean-up Materials: Bring a small broom, dustpan, paper towels, or rags to clean the tables and floor. A disposable tablecloth to protect tables is also recommended.
•Shoeboxes: Bring enough wrapped shoeboxes to store/present your donated ornaments.
