What's the difference between a badge and a patch? Believe it or not, there is a big difference!
A badge is an official GSUSA Girl Scout Award and can be earned by all Girl Scouts in the USA. These badges are included in the Girl Scout Handbook and are customized to each level of Girl Scouting. The LEGACY badges are Artist, Athlete, Citizen, Cook, First Aid, Girl Scout Way, and Naturalist and get progressively more detailed and challenging as the scout moves up levels. These awards are worn on the FRONT of the scout's sash, vest or smock.
A Fun Patch can be a program with a set of requirements (See GSGLA Patch Programs below), but is not an official award and should be worn on the BACK of the vest, sash or smock. A Fun patch can be used as a momento of an experience or activity (Fire Station Visit, Tie Dye Party) , a service (Food Drive, Beach Clean Up) or as an individual or troop recognition (#1 Seller, or "Super Scout").
These Patch Programs are special to GSGLA but can be earned by scouts from other councils as well. GSGLA scouts can also earn patches from other Councils!
