In 2015, Samantha Carlson, of Troop 925 and Giselle Segura, of Troop 5425 decided to team up with Jessica Dashner, the originator of the Project Pot Pies concept for their Silver Award Project. Jessica had been making pot pies for the homeless for years, but Samantha and Giselle would take it to a new level. Their original goal was to make pies and blessing bags for 200 homeless. After involving their communities and service units, they were able to more than double their goal and distribute 500 pot pies and 400 blessing bags at Venice Beach and Skid Row their first year. Project Pot Pie was then adopted as an annual event for the Marina Service Unit (serving Girl Scouts in Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Venice, and nearby communities)
As of October 2022, over 100 Girl Scouts as young as 6 years old have worked together to make 10,500 pot pies and 10,500 blessing bags for homeless people & veterans around Los Angeles.
Collection for the following year's blessing bags begins THE DAY AFTER the event! It takes almost a full year for to get everything needed to make 3500 Meals and Blessing Bags, all of which is stored at the troop leader's home!
