I started a unit on a new book. "The curious Garden". This presentation was created for the first two lessons of the unit. In this presentation, I included a slide with "clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior to achieving classroom goals" (4J). This is important because without clear expectations, the students got out of hand. The students had a clip board for classroom management, and when a student was not listening, I moved their clip down. If the students were good, I gave them some stars. The stars are then collected and 10 can be turned in for a prize. I learned that classroom management is different in each classroom. I have observed different types of strategies and I like the sticker book!
This Midterm Essay was created for the class, "Diverse and Lerner Ready Teaching". I wrote about how I will create a safe environment for students with Special Needs. I talk about a trauma informed mindset and what that looks like in the classroom. My main point is that teachers should listen, support and care for students. This is all important for "a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning" (4I). If the students don't feel safe, they won't be able to learn or grow in the classroom. I learned about trauma informed mindset and why it is important for teachers to be patient and communicate with their students. Teachers should be patient because trauma can be hurtful and students need time to share thier experiences with the teacher.
