This video is from my Student Teaching Experience at Worth Junior High. I was placed in a 6th grade self-contained classroom with three students. The lesson I am teaching is on character development and main events in the story, "Sometimes a Dream Needs A Push" by Walter Dean Myers. Recorded on February 9th, 2022.The class had read the beginning of the passage the day before, and we are finishing the story in this lesson. The anchor chart has a basketball hoop and was created as a visual story map for the students. I wrote down the student's thoughts and ideas about the story and I left the anchor chart up for the rest of the Unit, which the final product was a Character Analysis.
This is a Journal Prompt Google slide that I created. I liked to end the lesson with a journal prompt, which the studetns would then answer in thier notebook. I focused on different character traits and creative writing prompts. I provided some examples for the response, but I told students to write 2 complete sentences in their own words. It was a great way for them to practice writing and I had fun thinking of some journal prompts.
This is an exit ticket that I made during the unit of Character traits and development. I wanted to see what the students understood from the lesson. I also added an emoji slide where the students would post their sticky note on the image that described how they were feeling. The students seemed to like the emoji slide.
This is a google slide that I made to review Character traits. I had fun making the slides and then adding pictures to see if the students could match the character trait to the correct picture. Before matching, I called on the students to see if they remembered the meaning of the character traits. The students did great with this review and I am proud of how it turned out!
This is a Checklist of Basic Online skills, I observed a student using the school's library website to find a book. It was my first time observing a student to see their online skills, and I wasn't exactly sure what to look for, but the chart helped! The student did a great job showing me how to find a book on the website and then explaining the assignment as he was looking for books. It was a very interesting assessment and I am glad I was able to work one-on-one with the student for this assessment!
This is the first page of the Elementary Reading Attitude Survey. I found this in a course book for elementary literacy. The student seemed to like the images and had fun answering the survey questions. I like this survey and I hope to use it again in my future classroom. It gives me a good idea on how the student feels about reading.
This is the Deforestation final product that I had mentioned in standard 2. I am very proud of how it turned out! I provided an example for how the poster can look, but I asked students to make their poster unique and different than mine. The students seemed to enjoy finishing the project and adding pictures. All of the students worked on the same Jamboard, with a slide for each student. Each student categorized their annotations and put the poster together with some verbal prompts, but mostly on their own.
This is an activity that I used when the class read "Dragons Love Tacos". The students wrote a summary about the story, created the sequence of events (which is hanging from the dragon's mouth) and then color the dragon. The writing was a challenge because the students were not used to writing that much, but I assigned students to small groups and the paraprofessionals helped them copy the sentences. The students seemed to enjoy the activity and hang their work on the wall.
This is a K,W,L from the Deforestation unit. I wrote this on the white board and wrote down all of the students' thoughts. I was very impressed with the number of great questions the students thought of. I covered some of the questions in the unit and I encouraged the students to continue researching if they would like.
