My name is Maria van der Westen and I am a (sworn) translator for the English, Spanish and Dutch languages. Translating was an important part of the permanent job I held for a number of years. When my life was turned upside down from one day to another, the decision to make the transition to being an independent translator was quickly made. Already graduated as a Spanish translator and Bachelor of Communications English, I was sworn in by the District Court of The Hague, Netherlands, as a translator for both languages, which was followed by registration with the Office of Sworn Interpreters and Translators of the Netherlands (www.bureauwbtv.nl). My current registration is valid until October 2028. To complement my education, in 2016 I obtained a master's degree for the language Spanish-English.
When I'm not working, out of professional and personal interest, I like to take courses to maintain and expand my knowledge competencies. I also enjoy spending my time exercising, reading, cooking and baking, and the now old-fashioned hobby of cross stitching.
Since that step towards independence, I have gained a lot of experience in my three working languages, Dutch, Spanish and English. I translate from simple texts such as civil registry records to more complicated documents, such as criminal case files and asylum applications, patient records patient-oriented communications, employee manuals, corporate newsletters and similar texts. In recent years I have also gained experience as a transcreator.
If you need your translations because you are moving for a great job, applying to a university abroad, want to spend a long vacation in the country of your dreams, apply for a residence permit, set up a business elsewhere, or marrying the love of your life, I'm your to-go translator. Depending on the type of text and the country where the (certified) translation will be used, I translate from Spanish and English to Dutch, and from Dutch to Spanish and English. I also translate from Spanish to English. For all translations to be submitted to any United States government agencies, I will provide the required translator's certification or affidavit.
In addition to translating, I can also check or edit texts written by you in Dutch.
And only for those with the Dutch nationality, I can assist you with your passport application or registration of your birth or marriage certificate in the Netherlands. An hourly rate applies for this kind of serve.
The cost of translations varies, just as your texts vary. The length of the text, the degree of difficulty and the required delivery time are factors that determine the price.
