Throughout this program, I have been working on a blog:
Originally my plan was to develop a maker-space at my school and then create a blog to share my progress and provide tips an support for other teachers looking to do the same thing. It became clear early on that space and money for the project was going to be a major obstacle, but I still liked the idea of starting a blog.
While contemplating what focus my blog would take, I realized that there are many resources already available to learn how to use various Web 2.0 tools in the form of blogs and YouTube videos. I didn't feel there was a need for another blog like that. As I progressed through the courses in this program, it became apparent that what was more important and necessary at this time is a pool of ideas on how to implement these new digital tools effectively. This was especially important with the IRON CUE module. I was inspired by the ideas my peers came up with on how to use technology to redefine learning experiences. I titled my blog, Above the Line in Elementary because my plan it to share lesson ideas for modifying and redefining instruction for students.
I felt validated with my idea and the focus for my blog when I attended CUE BOLD. The whole structure and purpose of the conference was not on teaching cool tools, but implementing them in pedagogically sound lesson design. I know that there will be more presentations like this at the Fall CUE conference coming up in October. They are requesting presenters for 1-hour lesson design sessions, which is different from past conferences where the sessions were all about learning how to use a particular tool.
The idea to add a new tab where other educators can submit their lesson redesign ideas was a relatively new one that came after attending CUE BOLD. I realize how important it is to share ideas with each other. We are #bettertogether.
