Guard School is a week long firefighter training with a field day where new firefighters are trained in basic firefighting skills. The target group for this training is individuals desiring to be qualified as entry-level firefighters and support personnel.
This Guard School is for Forest Service, ODF, or other agency personnel only.
Date: June 15-19, 2026
Location: Malheur NF Supervisor's Office, 431 Patterson Bridge Road, John Day, OR 97845
Registration Due: June 1, 2026 - CLOSED
Guard School will include:
S-130, Firefighter Training (including the required Field Day)
S-190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
L-180, Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service
In addition to Guard School, students are required to complete both IS-700 and ICS-100 prior to receiving incident qualifications. These courses are offered online through independent study. Links to these courses are available on the FEMA Courses page.
