Forest Supervisors are responsible for identifying positions and submitting nominations for viable potential candidates to perform FPO duties. Ideally, FPO candidates are primarily field-going employees who are assigned regulatory compliance duties in their areas of responsibility. The FPO course is not solely for employees seeking a SEC2 qualification for incident security assignments. Therefore, priority training will be for field-going FPO candidates.
Employees should contact their supervisor if interested in pursuing FPO.

If you cannot attend the Malheur refresher you may select training on another forest. Additional dates and locations are available to choose from on the Registration Form.
All students must submit a R6 LEI Statement of Disqualifying Criteria form no later than 10 days before the refresher of choice. For more information, contact Courtney King, courtney.king1@usda.gov.
FSM 5371.4 - Forest Protection Officer Recertification
Forest Protection Officers (FPOs), who have been granted authority to issue form FS-5300-4, Violation Notice, shall attend an annual 8-hour recertification course. The National standardized program of instruction must be used and documented. Forest protection officers shall receive this annual training in order to continue to issue violation notices or serve on security assignments in incident camps. Attendance at a full 36-hour course is required if an FPO fails to attend an 8-hour recertification course for a period of more than 3 consecutive years.
