In most traditional classrooms that I have experienced, learning has revolved around memorization, recall, and writing. Instead of sticking to that old notion of sit, listen, write, and repeat, allowing learning through play and creativity can actively broaden students' horizons on many more levels than the old way of learning. "Making" allows students to find creative solutions, learn to adapt and overcome difficult tasks, and provides them with a basis of otherworldly understanding that can extend beyond the classroom.
Feel free to click through this module to find resources about the benefits of learning through play, as well as viewing my own experience of learning through creation, in my own design of a tool and lesson to be used in the classroom.
