Original Profile Picture for "Mackenzie H Music"
Ever since I was a wee young lad growing up in Greymouth, Music has been very important to me. I first was inspired to play guitar after listening to one of my early inspirations, Johnny Cash. Wanting to learn some of his songs, I was gifted a guitar on Christmas in 2020 and in early 2021, I started learning. Starting with "Ring of Fire", "Folsom Prison Blues", and a handful of other Cash songs and eventually moving onto another inspiration, Wilbur Soot. Armed with a few songs, I hit my first open mic in April, 2021. After playing at various open mics at bars and restaurants around Greymouth, I finally felt confident to start creating an album of covers in September, 2021. With the help of Ben Rover, my first studio cover album was released in November, 2021. After a second studio album in April of 2022, I started focusing on building a recording studio at home. During this time, I started going gigs at Monteith's Brewery and played there and recorded singles for my discography. In 2024, me and my wife moved to Ashburton where I now take up doing regular busking.
Previously, I have been in two bands. Here's a bit about them.
I joined Bad Wifi near the end of 2021 and was the first band I joined. Originally consisting of 4 members which later got changed to 3, I pitched some original music to the band, however, we just ended up doing covers. We ended up doing one open mic before I left due to a falling out late 2022. The band fell apart soon after.

This band was formed after a once-off joke improv group of 3 members called "The Wikiheads" where the idea was playing music while the singer read Wikipedia articles. After that, we rebranded to "Deadside" to then go on to play covers at a few open mics during the end of my time with Bad Wifi. The band dismembered at the end of the year after a fallout between me and one of the members, as well as the third member going off to Christchurch.
