During this time, I started making YouTube videos for my school channel. This is where I got my first real exposure to content creation. It had been a dream of mine for a few years to peruse YouTube for a living, Inspired by YouTubers like DanTDM. My school channel got deleated shortly after I finished primary school in 2017
Shortly into my first year at High School, I decided to create another channel that would be my own where I decided what videos I'd make. I made a really bad logo using Google Drawings and uploaded only a handful of videos throughout 2018. During this time, I launched a series of videos called "Voiceover Videos" where the goal was doing voice acting over narration in games which would run for the new few years.
During the time of mid-2019, I started to pivot towards a schedule of certain uploads a week. This lasted only a week as I became quickly disinterested with regular content. During this time, I started using a SingStar Microphone from my PS2 because it worked and I liked it. It was also during this time, I was in production of my first short film.
During this time, I started to advertise a short film I had made with a friend called "The YouTube Algorithm". That film was released and I started to embed it into a story I wanted to tell. This included pre-production on a second film. Progress was eventualy halted due to Covid and the film was scrapped later into the year.
This time was very weird for all of us. During the time where we were all inside, I uploaded more videos in the first half of 2020 than my previous 2 years on YouTube. Uploading a wide variety of content, one video that took off was a Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe news video I had uploaded mid 2020. As well as this, I started to write, produce and edit my audio series, "What Was Left", and working with many talented voice actors, published this story at the end of July 2020. You can learn more about this project by clicking here.
At this point, my family and I had moved houses 2 time by the end of 2020. As well as that, views on my channel started to decline as I started writing and teasing my second short film. I aimed for a end-of-year release but was never released as production never started. I was also starting production on another big project inspired by Markiplier's "A Heist With Markiplier" and ThatCybertChannel's "Henry Stickmin Collection Choose Your Own Review" which was a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure exploring a year-long mystery of what was inside a box that was tied into an alter-ego character. This was also never released.
At the start of 2021, I decided to take a step away from YouTube and social media for the most part. It was also during this time that I started to learn guitar and I really enjoyed it. In April, I performed at my first open mic which kickstarted opportunities for performing, both music and acting. As the year progressed, I kept on learning new songs and slowly learning new techniques to improve my playing. Around mid 2021, I had planned to perform a solo live show. However, a second round of COVID got in the way and I decided to use the equipment I had bought to record a set which later became "My (Sort Of) Live Album".
After "My (Sort Of) Live Album", I did a live stream on my channel that lasted over 2 and a half hours. After that livestream ended, I got the urge to create a new channel in secret, not really promoted or even talked about unlike my last channel. To give it another go. But this channel would be completely dedicated to music. That channel that was created Mid September was called "Mackenzie H Music" I uploaded a handful of videos until the end of the year.
Shortly after I created "Mackenzie H Music", I really wanted to make a cover album. And I knew somebody who had a recording studio they made out of their backyard shed. I shot him a message asking if I could record an album at his studio and he said yes. The album was going to consist of 13 songs written by Wilbur Soot, an inspiration at the time. After a few weeks, the album was recorded and was later released in November, 2021. This album was called "Your City Made Me Boring", A combination of Wilbur's EPs called "Your City Gave Me Asthma" and "Maybe I Was Boring".
2022 is the year I am the most nostalgic for. I had started to upload more videos onto the channel, started doing a weekly music stream which lasted about half a year, released an album, a single, and an EP, had started working on building my own home studio and getting new equipment, and towards late 2022, had started doing gigs at Monteiths Brewery.
During the start of this year, I started to focus more on my job I had only started at the end of November the year prior. I had slowly started on working on my 3rd studio album at various points throughout the year and towards the middle of the year, I started doing gigs at Monteiths again. In August, I met my now-wife, Kendrick, who moved in a month after we met and married in December.
On Christmas Day, 2023, I announced that I was going to be taking a step back from YouTube to focus on work, moving across the country, and providing for my wife and I. We can debate how long my "retirement" lasted.
So what can you expect from the future of Mackenzie H? Well, I've got big things on the way. My first Acoustic EP, my 3rd Studio Album, maybe a potential comeback to weekly music streams and maybe another channel. So stay tuned...
