Course information
The Design Pre-Thesis 1 is an advanced level architectural design studio that focuses on the socio-cultural theme. It provides a unique opportunity for the students to pursue a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) community, neighbourhood, cultural, heritage, gender, religious, psychological, regionalism, conservation and so on.
Design brief
Community architecture is interdisciplinary
and transdisciplinary defined. Community architecture must to give an answer to the
two tendencies: ageing population and urbanization. Community architecture is
AGE FRIENDLY. Community architecture
is universal, is architecture of all ages.

Group work
CDB (Design-based case study) is a research approach that is used to generate an understanding of the elderly housing issue in its real-life context which consists of three (3) different subjects categorized by organizational aspect (government, private, NGO) to better understand the advantages and limitation across all types of establishment.
Proposed site for the project is Bukit Indah which is a suburb located in Johor Bahru.
