I was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with textbooks. First, I found that they were overpriced causing students to not buy them or to sell them back immediately after the semester. Second, I thought that many of them trainined students to give speeches in college classes, but not the kind of speeches that appear in the "real world."
Because of these concerns, I proposed to write an Advanced Public Speaking textbook to meet the needs of my students. I also wrote it in such a way that when I am a guest speaker in another class that I can share with them one chapter to read.

Review of Advanced Public Speaking by Karly Jennings, Georgia Southern University
When I was asked to build a course in e-portfolios, I was surprised to find out that there were not any student facing books on the topic. At the time, I was participating in a national e-portfolio project and realized that others had a similar frustration so I decided to build a book that could be used in my class but also could be used in classes everywhere.
From January 2020 to June 2024, Building a Professional Portfolio has had 7,098 visitors and 12,700 page views. It has been endorsed by C. Edward Watson, Ph.D. Associate Vice President for Curricular and Pedagogical Innovation, Executive Director for Open Educational Resources and Digital Innovation, American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). It is listed as a recommended resource of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) ePortfolio resource list.
Open Education Resource Textbook
I co-faciltate a group of instructors who also work as student coaches. We decided to create an advanced microcredential for them. Part of that was to write a textbook of key things that coaches need to know.
I collaborated with retention specialists, academic coaches, and instructors to create this open education resource. We wrote it in a way that it can be used across our campus as a training tool for anyone who works with students.
I also created a companion site in the learning management system where coaches can complete assignments and do reflections that will result in them earning a microcredential.
