Luke 18:35-43
Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
A blind beggar is what everyone saw...Everyone but Jesus...Jesus saw a man who needed help, and no different than those who admonished the blind beggar...
Those who led the way for Jesus, rebuked the man, who ask the Son of David for mercy...Those leading the way, saw the man as a problem for Jesus and in His Way...They saw the man as troublesome...But the begging man was not a problem for Jesus...We often avoid people and things that we do not feel comfortable with and comfortable around...Our own comfortable world can be jarred by the discomfort and hardship of others...The discomfort of others make us feel a different type of discomfort...
Jesus is not like the common man...He sees people for what they are (and for what we are)...Jesus did not see the blind man as troublesome...He wanted to help the man and people of discomfort, not avoid them...The Way that Jesus sees people is not the way we see them...He would not (at all) avoid the blind man, but He invited him into His company...Jesus knows there is a better Way, His Way...His Way is the Way through LOVE...Jesus sees people, all people through His eyes of LOVE...
