Luke 18:15-17
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Acts 17:24-25
Man Needs God
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.
John 14:6
Jesus is the Way to God, the Only Way
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Matthew 22:34-38
First and Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
When we are born and just babies we depend on our parents or our guardians to live...They must feed us and take care of us so that we can survive during our youngest of years...We need our parents to live...Our parents give us this care because they love us, and so that we may further our growth and mature...We need our parents to get us through our youngest years to survive...
During Jesus' time on earth, people would bring their babies to Jesus so that He would touch them and bless them...The people may have thought that just His touch would give their child the blessing they needed for life...They may have thought Jesus would be with their child and the child would be included in God's Plan...Maybe they thought that Jesus' touch would protect their child, throughout their life...And maybe they thought their child would live more abundantly, getting His touch...The parents may have thought in a Spiritual Way the child needed His touch...Whatever the reason, the parents that brought their children to Jesus wanted Him to touch them for their particular reason or reasons...
But in reality the parents who brought their children to Jesus, had no way of knowing what was going to happen to them in the near term, or as the child aged...
Jesus wanted the little children to come to Him...He said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these."...Jesus tells us that we need to be like a little child, or we will not receive the Kingdom of God...Maybe, like the little child, we need God to survive...We need God to live a more abundant life...For without God, what is life to the believer?...One might ask, if the believer needs God's touch, doesn't the non-believer?...
It is sometimes difficult for us to drop our own plans and follow God's Plan...We sometimes think we may know better than the One who created us and the universe...Following God and His Son is a lifelong process of turning away from our own plans and turning toward God's Plan and Jesus' teachings...One of the first steps in following God's Plan is admitting that we need Him to be the Major Part of our life...And God knows what is going to happen to us, near term, short term, or long term, anytime...And many times He gives us challenges, problems, and disruptions...I quickly think of Job, and Jacob's son, Joseph -who both had their share of problems and issues in life...And they both survived and lived an abundant life...
In admitting that we need God is the start of this lifelong process of following Him and His Son...Loving God is the first and the Greatest Commandment...We need God, although He is not in need of us...He created us...It is God who does not need anything, since He is the One who gives breath to all life, and to all things...
God gives, and man receives like children, because we are in need of Him...He is our Father is this respect...And He gave us His Son, a Savior to us because that is what we need, because it is what sinners need...Sinners need salvation, and a Way to God, and God has given us His Son to make it back to Him...
