Luke 16:19-31
Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Mark 9:43-50
Obstacles in Life
43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. [44] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. [46] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where
“‘the worms that eat them do not die,
and the fire is not quenched.’
49 Everyone will be salted with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
Matthew 13:36-43
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
How do you see hell?...
Hell is a place that is apart and away from Jesus...And as we read the gospels we see that Jesus knew a lot about hell, did teachings on hell and warns us about hell...Hell was a real place for Jesus as He taught about it...Hell seems to be a most hotter place than we want to be...
In the Parable of the Weeds Jesus explains to us about hell...The world is full of believers and non-believers...And the good seeds are sowed by Jesus in His teachings...The good seed are the ones who believe in the teachings of Jesus...One day the world will end and harvest time for the seeds good and bad will take place...The harvesters will be angels...At the end of the ages Jesus will weed out the bad seeds and send then to a place apart from Him...And it will feel like a blazing furnace...The good seeds will shine in the sun and the Light with Him and His Father...
The the story of the rich man and Lazarus we learn that the rich man was in Hades, where he was in torment...The rich man looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side...So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’...
Jesus teaches this about sins and obstacles in our lives..."If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off...It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out...And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off...It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell...And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out...It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’...Everyone will be salted with fire"....
Many people has their own ideas on what hell is...And I believe hell is a subject and topic that is difficult to explain -because God LOVES all His children...Author Rob Bell has his ideas on hell and writes this about Jesus and His teachings on hell, “But in reading all of the passages in which Jesus uses the word "hell," what is so striking is that people believing the right or wrong things isn't His point...He's often not talking about "beliefs" as we think of them--he's talking about anger and lust and indifference...He's talking about the state of his listeners' hearts, about how they conduct themselves, how they interact with their neighbors, about the kind of effect they have on the world.”...
Jesus saw hell as this most uncomfortable hot place, where there were no sacred and holy things...So Jesus gives us vivid descriptions of hell and the negative continued tormenting place that it is, being apart from Him...Because God is sacred, holy and good He sent us His Son to believe in...He sent us His Son so that we can be with Him and away from this terrible place of hell...Jesus is our Salvation from hell...Our Savior to keep us out of hell...
