Luke 18:35-43
A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight
35As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by."
38He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
39Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
40Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41"What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord, I want to see," he replied.
42Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you." 43Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
St. Luke writes about Jesus healings throughout his gospel...St. Luke himself was a physician (Colossians 4:14)...Jesus is our greatest healer...When we are ill we must look to Him...St. Luke the doctor knew this...No doubt learned something about healing in his research and investigating in writing The Gospel According to Luke...Jesus could not do any miracles in His own hometown, except lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them...And He was amazed at their lack of faith (Mark 6:5-6)...Luke, the doctor, would have learned the importance of faith in the in healing process, for believers in Jesus...
Here as Jesus and His disciples were near Jericho and a blind man was sitting by the roadside...When the blind man heard the crowd going by, he ask what was happening...They told him that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by...The blind man called out to Jesus the Son of David and ask Him to have mercy on him...Those who were leading the way for Jesus, and rebuked the blind man and told him to be quiet...But he shouted all the more for the Son of David to have mercy on him...Jesus heard him and ordered the man to be brought to Him...When he came near to Jesus, Jesus ask him "what do you want Me to do?"...The blind man said, "LORD, I want to see."...Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight, your faith has healed you...
When we seek Him and pray and have faith and believe in Him He can heal...When Jesus touches us He can heal us...The blind man had faith that Jesus could heal him...The poor blind man somehow knew, if Jesus touched Him or said He would be healed, then He would be healed...The blind man probably did not know how his eyes would be healed by Jesus...Because He is the truth, when He told the blind man receive your sight it would happen, because He is the truth...When He spoke it was the truth, so the blind man could now see...Jesus is divine...How the truth and faith works is difficult to understand...But how faith works is not important...I do not know how the car engine I drive works, but I know it does...I turn the key on and the car goes...The car does work, despite me knowing how...Or more toward nature, I do not no how the sun comes up everyday...But everyday, without fail, the sun comes up...My understanding or knowing how something works, does not make it work, or not make it work...When Jesus speaks the truth it happens...
The poor blind man was healed received his sight...He then followed Jesus, praising God for his cure...
We can learn from the poor blind man...Have faith in the Son of David...When we have a true foundation of faith and believe in Him and pray, He will hear us...The grace of God can come through Jesus, and when we receive God's grace, we need to praise God...It is for the glory of God to be more like Jesus and follow Him...The more we learn about Him, the closer we gt to the Father...
Jesus came, teach, heal, and save sinners...He has mercy on us sinners...He came to help us see the Light...He is that Light...
God gives us doctors to help heal us...God gave us the good doctor Luke...Luke, the doctor, learned much about the healing process, in his writings about Jesus...No doubt Luke was a much better physician after he wrote The Gospel according to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles...
