Congratulations on passing the entry test and welcome to the Roads Policing Unit. As of now, your 30 days probationary period has started. During this time, you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills in the aim of becoming a substantive member within the team. Use this time wisely to learn from the training team & experienced RPU Officers. Below, you will find most of the information you need to deploy with the Roads Policing Team. Please familiarise yourself with the guides and should you need any assistance then reach out to your Team Leader or an RPU Trainer.
Road Policing Officers must always wear their Police issued RPU Vest whilst on duty and outside of a police station. For more information, view the RPU Uniform Policy below.
If on a fast moving road or enacting road closures you should obtain high-vis from your vehicle as soon as practicable.
Probationary RPU Officers may not conduct RPU Ridealongs without authorisation from their Team Leader or give feedback on prospective officers
Should you have any questions or concerns at this stage, please contact your Team Leader or an RPU Trainer, both of which can be found on the Main RPU Database below.
Here you will lean the fundamentals of safe, efficient, and effective driving during high-pressure or urgent situations. Roadcraft is a set of techniques used by Roads Policing Officers to navigate difficult driving conditions or to respond to emergencies while minimizing risk to themselves, other road users, and pedestrians whilst making progress towards incidents or conducting an effective pursuit.
With help from experienced Roads Policing Officers, we will aim to teach you:
The System of Car Control
Observations and Anticipations
The 'Three P's' of Emergency Driving
Hazard Perception and Avoidance
The Use of Warning Devices
Judgment and Decision Making
Exemptions and Non-Exemptions
This training has been adapted for use within the mechanics of RPUK
During the 30 days in RPU you can complete the tactical advisor assessment.
Assessment takes approximately 15 minutes.
On passing, you can authorise TPAC, tactical contact and hard stops after your 30 day probation is over.
