Training is split between two phases: the entry test and pursuit tactics. Your entry test will test your ability to drive, whilst also giving you advice to develop your driving and communication skills in pursuit. During pursuit tactics you'll cover road closures, TPAC, tactical contact and hard stops.
Be a substantive constable for at least 30 days.
Able to drive and communicate to a high standard.
Have no current driving related warning points.
Be taser trained.
Ability to drive LSPS' fleet of high performance marked and unmarked vehicles, with the opportunity to become Interceptor trained to drive the Oracle XS-LE Interceptor.
Ability to drive the BMW R 1200RT police motorcycle. Those interested in targeting motorcycle crime have the opportunity to progress and join Op Venice, and also complete additional training for VIP escort.
Ability to perform tactical contact, TPAC and hard stops when authorised by a pursuit Tactical Advisor (TACAD). Additional tools such as traffic control nodes and Stingers are also available to you.
Once experienced, traffic officers are able to become pursuit Tactical Advisors (TACAD's) and authorise tactics during pursuits.

Complete 3 traffic ride alongs. Ask them to provide feedback on your interest form.
They will be assessing your:
driving (where possible)
communication
policing knowledge
general attitude
Entry tests will be offered to those with positive feedback.
The test further assesses your ability to drive and communicate safely when driving.
You must pass a time trial without immobilising your car.
On passing the entry test you will be offered a position in a Safer Roads team.
This is subject to your current unit command approving your transfer.
You retain your existing driver level pending Pursuit Tactics training.
Driver trainers will be contact you to organise a Pursuit Tactics session.
On completion you will be a level 1 driver - able to perform TPAC, tactical contact, and hard stops.
