Focus: Paragraph Types and Cohesion
By the end of this session, learners will be able to:
Explain the importance and purpose of well-structured paragraphs in English writing.
Identify and apply the four essential elements of effective paragraphs: unity, coherence, sufficient development, and logical order.
Distinguish among different paragraph types, including descriptive, narrative, and persuasive.
Write three well-developed paragraphs based on one selected paragraph type using:
A strong topic sentence
Supporting sentences with relevant examples or explanations
Logical flow and paragraph coherence
A clear concluding sentence
Submit their work through Padlet as a self-access product.
It is a very important form of writing as we write almost everything in paragraphs, be it an answer, essay, story, etc. We can say that a well-structured paragraph is the important things of good paragraph writing. The purposes of the paragraph are to give information, to explain something, to tell a story, and to convince someone that our idea is right.
There are four essential elements that an effective paragraph contain:
Unity
Coherence
Sufficient development.
There are several types of paragraph, such as descriptive paragraph, persuasive paragraph, narrative paragraph and the effective Paragraphs, it contains:
A topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph
Supporting sentences with details and specific examples as proof of your point
Logical, coherent thoughts that are developed in order from one sentence to the next
A concluding idea that wraps up the point of the paragraph
