The London Eye is a panoramic wheel located on the south bank of River Thames between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge in London. Its original name was Millennium Eye and it was changed in London Eye in 2011.
It is the highest wheel in Europe, the fourth in the world and it’s highest panoramic wheel at cantilever in the globe. It’s 135 m high and its circumference is 424m. It never stops because it moves at a speed of 26 cm per second. When it reaches the top you can see up to 40 km away.
Its construction started in 1998 and finished on the 31st December 1999, but in opened on the 9th, March 2000 due to technical problems. Its construction cost £75 millions.
A round of the “Eye” lasts 30 minutes. The capsules are numbered from 1 to 33, but there are only 32 because, due to superstitions reasons, there isn’t cabin number 13. Each cabin is made up of glass, weights 10 tons, carries 25 people and represents one of the London boroughs.
There are lots of lights that can change colour according to the occasion. For example, during Prince Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding London Eye became blue, red and black: the Marines’ colours.
Every New Year’s Eve at the striking of midnight the fireworks are fired from the wheel.
Every year 3,5 million of tourists visit The London Eye. The ticket cost £25, if you buy it online it cost £22.45.

The wheel trasformed London's landscape and represents a national symbol of Britain's innovation and technologicol success in the 21st cenury. In 1993, architects David Marks and Julia barfield submitted their entry for an open competition to design a millennium landmark in London. The wheel offers the greatest panoramic views of the city. Infact, it moves very slowly so people can take photos.
