The Pudney family owned and operated a music store at Dundas and Waterloo Street in London and Jack's band was formed in the 1920s from the many musicians who visited the store. He quickly became very popular and played many of the large dancehalls in the area.
When the Port Stanley Pavilion opened in 1926 Jack was anxious to get the band playing there. He eventually achieved his wish but with some personnel changes as some of the original members did not want to be tied down every night of the week. Due to pressure of other work Jack did not always front the band and on these occasions Mickey McDougall would take the baton.
He became very popular at Port Stanley and the Casino heavily promoted the band. Local radio stations also broadcast his dances from the Casino. The reputation of the band spread and It became so highly regarded that Jack Pudney signed contracts for a USA tour and also for engagements at supper clubs in London England.
After a few seasons the strain of playing most nights of the week took its toll and the band dissolved
