Neil Harrington & The Moonliters

Back in 1980 John Griffith, Len Coleman and Murray Kelly were sitting around the fireside at the Highland Country Club reminiscing about the "Big Band" era when it occured to them to try and form their own musical unit right at the Highland.

The first practice featured a variety of instruments and talent including harmonicas, violins and gut-buckets. After a short time the group acquired the music library of the retired Johnny Downs Orchestra and the band added several musicians which increased its size from the original eight members to a conventional eighteen piece big band. Included in the additions were reed player John Montgomery who provded the group with special arrangements of old dance standards to help the orchestra develop their own sound, and vocalist Gail Amy-Johnson who sang with Johnny Downs for many years.

John Griffith led this group until his retirement in 1992 when the baton was handed to Neil Harrington as Director of Music.

The band was very popular and played at numerous venues including Wonderland Gardens, Highland Country Club, Hunt Club, London Club, Western Fair, Victoria Park, London Convention Centre and UWO.

Neil Harrington retired in 2004.
