Bubs Jamieson Orchestra
Bubs Jamieson was born in London Ontario on December 6, 1920 and took piano lessons at an early age. He attended Central Collegiate at the same time as Reg Saville (saxes) and Hugh McKenzie, (drums), who were also to become well known in the music business. It wasn't long before a group of them got together to make music, with Reg Saville writing the arrangements.
Bubs next played at Ipperwash Casino with Tim Freeborn's band during 1938 and 1939, at which time Freeborn decided to step down. Bubs took over the group and renamed it the Bubs Jamieson Orchestra. The new group played Ipperwash Casino until 1940 and also played the London YMCA winter dances on Saturday nights after Alf Tibbs. They also played engagements at Goderich Pavilion for two years, at Wonderland Gardens, and as far afield as Windsor,
When WW2 broke out Jamison joined the Armed Forces in 1942 and served with the Middlesex and Huron Regiment. He was married at Camp Borden, spent time at Three Rivers and played in the army band of the time with another local musician Ken Wooster. He went overseas as a lieutenant, was captured in Italy and held as a prisoner of war.
He came back to Canada in January 1946 and thereafter devoted his time to his career in sales, which led eventually to becoming vice president of Harvey Woods.
Today Bubs Jamieson enjoys his comfortable retirement in London Ontario.
