We mainly grow Belstar, a variety that first produces a central head as well as side shoots after the central head is cut off.
HOW TO STORE: Stem in a glass of water in the fridge. As with other vegetables you want to keep from overripening, keep them away from apples and other ripening vegetables with ethylene.
HOW TO USE: We are big fans of adding broccoli to cheesy pasta dishes. If we are eat it raw it is usually as part of a "throw what sort of brassicas (kale and cabbage usually) we've got into a slaw." My favorite is using yogurt, homemade garlic mayo, or a mix and adding a hefty amount of salt, pepper and mustard...with lots of tasting along the way until I find just the right balance of flavors. I'm a fan of adding raisins as well, but I've learned this is really contentious!
