Charlie Byrnes

As part of our engagement with the wider community we sought to create a link with our local bookshops

As part of our initial survey students had remarked on the lack of current reading material on our shelves. A list was compiled of authors and books that they would like to see stocked.

We contacted our local bookshop Charlie Byrne's here in Galway city.

Charlie Byrne's is a much loved Galway bookshop. In 2019 it won 'Best Independent Bookshop in Ireland' as part of the British and Irish Book Awards. The have over 100,000 books in stock. So they were the perfect choice to help us out.

As a school we were delighted to have them to come and visit our library, to browse our shelves and give us some much needed recommendations

On the 14th February 2020 We had a lovely visit from Maeve (book buyer) for Charlie Byrnes.

She spent the morning in the library with us. We chatted about what books were moving from our shelves and what books were popular amongst teens in Charlie Byrnes.

We had a comprehensive list made up by the end of the morning of books that we would purchase.

At the top of each shelve, an image shows the students what genre is located there

Maeve looked at what we had stocked on our shelves (recently arranged by genre) to see what we already had in stock before giving us recommendations
