Student Book Swap Stations

Student Book Swap stations were introduced in order to appeal to our reluctant readers. Many of our students play sports, the training for these sports is normally at lunchtime.

There were many students who had never come down to our library at lunchtime. We wanted to introduce the idea of books around the school. Students were encouraged to take a book. They could also leave a book.

We decided to pilot the scheme in two locations- there is a student book swap station set up in our canteen and at the 2nd Year Girl Locker areas….

We monitor the movement of books regularly - there has been good movement of books throughout the year. At first books were slow to move, however we have gradually noticed new books introduced to the shelves.

This is an encouraging sign!!

Book Swap located at 2nd Year Girls Locker Area:

We chose this location as it has a heavy footfall. It is close to one of the main staircases. This means that many students pass by on a daily basis.

Book Swap located in the Canteen

We also chose to have a station in the canteen where most students pass by on a daily basis

The book swap is monitored so that we can see what books have been taken, and any new additions
