What is it?
Success criteria are a set of standards one needs to acquire in order to meet a certain level. As you can see below, we have focused on important areas of language learning and what each one looks like at different ability levels (from 0, 'Seeds' all the way up to 4, 'Flowers'). Please read through it carefully.
Why do we need it?
At Linguajoy, we believe it's important that every child in your classroom is challenged- we want them to leave your lessons with their brains hurting (in a good way!). In order to do this, we want you to 'measure' each child against the success criteria so that you can plan and deliver your lessons to meet the needs and ability of every child in your class.
When will we use this?
This is not an exam. Nor any other means of formal assessment. Rather, we want you to observe them over a series of 6 lessons and make an informed, teacher judgement. After 6 lessons, please make a note of their level in your roster.
How will we use this?
Your lessons should be differentiated in order to meet the mixed abilities in your classroom. This is not planning a different lesson for each child, or teaching different topics. For children who need more challenge, this may look like teaching themes in more 'depth', asking 'higher order' questions, or giving them 'assigned roles', for example. Each ability group will have different key vocabulary to learn for each theme - this is defined at the beginning of every lesson plan.
