At the Forest Ecosystems station on the State Contest, participants will be asked multiple choice and true-or-false questions about forest ecosystems. Each year, the contest focuses on two ecosystems, on a four-year rotation. The ecosystems for 2023-24 are Freshwater Swamps and Tropical Hammocks.

To prepare, there is information about the two ecosystems specific to each age division.
Juniors should review the slide deck prepared by the state to cover these two ecosystems.
Intermediates should read the two ecosystem descriptions and study the website descriptions of the four representative plant species for each ecosystem.
