Provocation / Challenge
The students will look at different websites to identify characteristics and spark curiosity on how to start constructing their websites. They will also interview first graders to gather information about their interests.
Building Knowledge
Building Knowledge
Through center rotations, students will learn how to interpret and organize qualitative and quantitative data. This exercise will help students build comprehension about how to use the results of the surveys conducted with the first graders. They will also work on recalling, reviewing, and practicing grammar structures that help strengthen their writing in their research, essays, and myths.

Development
Students will carry out science experiments, analyze their results, and use them to construct knowledge on climate phenomena used to inspire their creative writing of myths. They will also work on prototyping a website that allows young learners to interact and learn about climate, culture, and myths.

Students will read various myth selections from around the world to understand how culture plays an important part in explaining the origin of specific phenomena. They will make connections and provide evidence to explain their reasonings and inferences.
Research & Writing
Research & Writing
Once students select a climate phenomenon, they will conduct research to write an argumentative essay. They will structure a thesis statement that centers on the impact the phenomenon has on culture. They will also write a myth explaining the origin of their selected climate phenomenon. Through peer and teacher feedback and draft revisions, students refine their ideas, practice critical thinking, and strengthen their writing.

The project culminates in a website for first graders, where students showcase the depth and quality of their work while also demonstrating their group skills through roles that help foster collaboration. This final milestone brings together their learning process and progress throughout the project together.
