The students begin with poetry, documentaries, and discussions that spark curiosity and introduce key themes such as land, community, conflict, and peace.

Through center rotations, students explore historical primary and secondary sources, literary devices, poetry, and scientific concepts and processes. This work builds a strong foundation for their study of Colombia’s identity and biodiversity, while also guiding them in drafting their first writing pieces

Students design and carry out experiments, analyze their results, draft chronicles and poems, and strengthen their research by creating maps and timelines that apply knowledge across disciplines in meaningful ways.

Through peer and teacher feedback, debates, and draft revisions, students refine their ideas, practice critical thinking, strengthen their oral communication through poem presentation and declamation, and connect historical conflicts to modern challenges.

After their field trip to La Macarena, where students experience its biodiversity firsthand, collect observations, and listen to community testimonies on the armed conflict, they return to polish their maps, timelines, poems, and chronicles, preparing high-quality final versions that will form part of their collective book.

The project culminates in a formal book presentation, where students showcase the depth and quality of their work, while also demonstrating their oral communication skills through public sharing. This final milestone brings together their research, field experiences in La Macarena, and interdisciplinary learning, allowing them to present their reflections on Colombia’s biodiversity and identity.
