Personal Operating Manual

The Personal Operating Manual (POM) project was designed to help students become more effective and self-aware learners. It unfolded in three key phases: Me as a Learner, where students explored their learning styles, habits, and challenges; Me in the Community, where they reflected on how they collaborate, communicate, and contribute in group settings; and How the Brain Works, which introduced them to basic neuroscience concepts like neuroplasticity, attention, and memory. These phases helped students build a deep understanding of how they learn and function in academic and social environments.

Through self-assessments, guided reflections, and discussions, students created a personalized “manual” that highlighted strategies for focus, organization, emotional regulation, and growth. This manual served as both a reflection tool and a practical guide to support future learning. By integrating science, self-awareness, and communication skills, POM prepared students to take ownership of their education and become more autonomous and reflective learners.
