LED, Learning Experiences Through Discovery, science, English, and social studies are integrated into the curriculum. Through project-based learning, students build subject-specific knowledge and skills while developing cross-disciplinary competencies such as communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and self-regulation.
During the first week of school, we conducted a series of workshops to introduce students to the classroom dynamics and prepare them for teamwork, perseverance, and the challenges ahead. Each session was designed to strengthen essential skills such as collaboration, communication, and resilience through interactive activities and group problem-solving. At the end of every workshop, we included metacognitive activities that encouraged students to reflect deeply on their learning experiences, choices, and areas for growth. These moments of reflection were key in helping students understand themselves as learners and in nurturing a mindset focused on continuous improvement. In line with Los Nogales’ understanding of excellence, we invited students to see excellence not as perfection, but as a daily commitment to doing their best, being thoughtful, and striving to grow in every aspect. These early workshops laid the foundation for a culture of purpose, effort, and meaningful learning throughout the year.
Limited Materials
Using only pasta and marshmallows, students built the tallest, most stable structure. They practiced planning, testing, adapting, and discovered how teamwork, creativity, and perseverance help solve problems with limited resources.
Impossible Challenge... at First
Students were asked to fold origami without instructions, a task that first seemed impossible. They explored by observing, experimenting, and adjusting, and discovered the value of creativity, patience, and resilience when facing uncertainty.
Diagnostics
Students completed diagnostics in science, social studies, and English. These assessments helped identify their skill levels, giving teachers a clear starting point for planning and guiding future learning
Butterfly Challenge
Students painted a butterfly and then received feedback to improve their work. They learned that revision is part of growth, and discovered how listening, reflecting, and trying again strengthens both their skills and confidence.
