Journey through the NHS
Theme: Playful Learning
Project lead: Kevin Tsang, Institute of Health Informatics
Description:
Students new to the UK health system sometimes find it difficult to understand the context of how different services are linked and the experience of a patient navigating the health services, this is what our playful learning experience will hope to address. The objective is for a player to access a specific care service. The experience will require make a series correct of decisions in order to move closer to accessing the care they need. To realise this experience over #LearnHack8.0, day one will focus on designing the roadmap of the journey to access three types of care and implementing a single journey to completion. The experience can be implemented using no-code solutions or coding solutions depending on the team members, either online or physical game. Day two will include play testing, iteration, and implementing the other journeys.
The introduction video gives an overview of the services but doesn’t include sufficient details about the patient journey between the services. https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/animations/how-does-nhs-england-work Example of existing games have been designed for staff already working in the NHS to further their understanding, which may not be appropriate for introducing students to the NHS. www.hfma.org.uk/career-development/nhs-operating-games/ https://www.southtees.nhs.uk/about/strive/innovation-team/commercial-products/who-cares-wins-interactive-online-game/
