This discussion reframes psychosis and delusions as experiences on a continuum rather than as categorical "disorders". The presenters explore fusion, belief, and perception as forms of behavior occurring within context, highlighting that perception itself is a kind of "shared hallucination" shaped by learning history and social agreement. Emphasis is placed on compassion through continuity and on moving beyond the medical model to reduce stigma and promote more human-centered approaches.

Developed in a clinical context for therapists to use throughout their psychotherapeutic work, the process-based Flexibility Notes ("Flex Notes") reflect the foundational emphasis on in-session behavioral processes seen in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Clinical Behavior Analysis (Sandoz, 2020). The Flex Notes allow therapists to track client behavior in terms of aversive and appetitive control through the use of therapist prompts for the client to engage in different target behaviors. One of the clinical goals of ACT and CBA is to build client repertoires in the presence of functionally aversive stimuli, and the flexibility notes facilitate this process. The Flex Notes are presented in worksheet format and provide therapists with a series of target behaviors that are observed during a therapy session with a client.ย

Flex Notes Manual
Lab member Abbey Warren used the Flex Notes as a component of her Master's thesis project, and in the process, collaborated with Dr. Sandoz and other labbies to create an unofficial manual for folks who wish to know more about using the Flex Notes in clinical work. The manual is intended to guide therapists when using the Flex Notes and includes a conceptual overview, the Flex Notes worksheet, and a brief guide of different client behaviors that can be targeted during a therapy session.

Flex Notes Prompting Guide
The first iteration of the Flex Notes manual did not include the target behavior guide. Instead, it contained a brief "prompting guide" of sorts that provides clinicians with examples of prompts aimed to elicit each target behavior. This prompting guide may be useful for folks who are interested in learning the different levels of prompting (i.e., scaffolding) that therapists may provide.
