INTO THE DEEP was the fourth season for the Laser Bots team. We continued to grow stronger as a team, with members across 8th through 12th grade taking on bigger roles and showing real leadership both on and off the field. This season, we competed in three qualifiers and the Wisconsin State Championship-making it to the semi-finals at all four events and finishing as Finalist at State. We are proud to currently hold the fourth and seventh HIGHEST scores in the state of Wisconsin for this season.
Throughout this season, we took home several awards including multiple Innovate awards, A design Award at State, and led the winning alliance at one of our qualifiers. Our competition placements improved meet after meet, showing how far we've come from where we started just a few years ago.
We've learned so much from this season, especially about refinding our design, optimizing strategy, and working as a unified team. Each member is starting to find their specialty, whether thats coding, driving, building, or scouting. See below for how each of us contributed and what we're aiming for as we look ahead to next year!
Freshman- 3rd Season
Contributions: I am the lead builder for the team. I have been a build all three seasons. I also have been a driver. Through robotics I am getting better at teamwork.
Goals: Expand my knowledge about robot design. Improve communication. Build more safely and not cut myself while building.
Freshman- 2nd Season
Contributions: I design parts in CAD and help build the robot. This year, me and Tyler designed the claw. I calculated gearling and helped design the virtual four bar.
Goals: I would like to start coding some
parts of the robot.
Freshman- 3rd Season
Contributions: I have been a driver all three years. This year, I have helped brainstorm design ideas and developed autonomous programming strategies.
Goals: I hope to become a better driver and learn how to program so that I can help out with that in future seasons.
Sophomore - 3rd Season
Contributions: My main contribution is programming. I have programmed the camera and have assisted in the programming for main robot functions, and the autonomous programs.
Goals: I’d like to become more efficient with using Java.
7th Grade - 1st Season
Contributions: I have researched airplane designs and used CAD and to make a paper airplane launcher. I have also helped with building.
Goals: My goals are to learn CAD and to be a good builder.
8th Grade - 2nd Season
Contributions: I have designed and
built the robot using OnShape software.
I have designed and 3D printed features on our robot. I have been part of the drive team as well.
Goals: I’d like to get better at programming, specifically using Javascript or C++.
Sophmore- 2nd Season
Contributions: I have also been helping with the photography and social media.
Goals: Make more videos for our Youtube channel
7th Grade - 1st Season
Contributions: I have been learning CAD and have been making drones for the launcher. I have also been involved in building the robot.
Goals: My goals are to learn more about programming.
Freshman - 3rd Season
Contributions: I have designed and built the robot using OnShape software. I have designed and 3D printed features on our robot. I mentored students during our summer STEM outreach.
Goals: I’d like to get better at programming, specifically moving from Blocks to Java & Android Studio.
